The play was created “on order” for the first year of the Prague show, The Emperor’s New Clothes, dedicated in January 2025 to the memory of Professor Jan Císař, an extraordinary theatre scholar. The organizers wanted Maryša (the professor’s favourite play), or any play with lots of apples (in reference to the professor’s theoretical problem of the overuse of the apple as a symbol on stage).
Maryša Vávrová is an attempt to combine both assignments using an author, who does not know either Haná or Slovácko dialect, so he will speak in his own way. That’s all for the initial apology to the Mrštík brothers and an explanation for all those who like the classic Maryša.
