A commemorative revue with Josef Skupa, Mr. Spejbl and Hurvínek, created for the important anniversaries of Josef Skupa and Jiří Trnka. And yes, you haven't misunderstood, the whole programme will be accompanied not only by Mr Spejbl and Hurvínek, but we have, indeed, invited on the stage our first principal and Daddy, Professor Josef Skupa as well. And not only because this year we are commemorating 130 years since his birth, but also because he and Jiří Trnka were friends. And so that our remembering the unique Jiří Trnka is not just about talking, we have prepared for you, after a long time, puppet acts which Jiří Trnka gave birth to and which bear his original handwriting. Let us most cordially invite you to join us in reminiscing and paying tribute to the creators who wanted to spend all their lives playing and finally they made it!
5 p.m. Festival Closing Ceremony
About the theatre:
The Spejbl and Hurvínek Theatre is one of the most successful Czech puppet theatres in history. It was founded in Vinohrady, Prague, after the end of the Second World War in 1945 and continued the activities of the pre-war Skupa Theatre. After Skupa's death, Miloš Kirschner took over and directed the theatre, followed by Helena Štáchová and Denisa Kirschnerová. Two of the most popular characters of Czech puppet theatre, Spejbl and Hurvínek, became the fate of the theatre. The theatre has managed to keep innovating and developing the characters of the famous father and son, as well as Mánička, Žeryk and later Mrs. Kateřina, and keep them relevant for and able to communicate with every new generation. Which is a very significant contribution to Czech puppetry.
