EXHIBITIONS
12.-30.6.

Gustav Nosek - Man in the Shadow

The vernissage will take place on 16th June 2018 at the Puppet Museum, Náměstí Republiky 23 at 14:15

Muzeum loutek, nám. Republiky 23

An exhibition about a prominent Czech woodcarver Gustav Nosek - Man in the Shadow will present the artistic activity of this Pilsen native during his active years. Gustav Nosek (1877 - 1974), who is the author of the puppets of Hurvínek, Mánička and the dog Žeryk, whom he even "barked" and operated himself, was, despite the glory of all his carved theatre heroes, overshone by his own work. This year, the Puppet Museum in Pilsen organizes an exhibition that will allow visitors to take a look at the work of this extremely productive carver, thanks to whom the Czech puppet theatre has become popular far beyond our country. The exhibition will be accompanied by Spejbl and Hurvínek puppets from the Moscow Obrazcov Theatre, which were given to Obrazcov in 1949 by his long-time friend Josef Skupa. Are these really the oldest Spejbl and Hurvinek? We will try to find out in this exhibition!

13.6. 10-18h

Josef Skupa with the puppets of Spejbl and Hurvínek at the drawing of Rudolf Brachtl (1952)

Lecture at 17:00, the drawing will be exhibited from 10:00 to 18:00

West Bohemian Gallery, Pražská 13

In the "One Work / One World" cycle, in which the West Bohemian Gallery presents the selected work of its collections every month, this time Rudolf Brachtl's portrayal of Josef Skupa with his famous puppets Spejbl and Hurvinek will be presented. The whole day, there will be a possibility for the visitors to see the original of this sizable work (100 x 120 cm) created five years before the death of Skupa. West Bohemian Gallery collects several other works related to Josef Skupa, especially its sculptural portrait by Jiří Hanzálek, as well as several early drawings by Josef Skupa himself, depicting the now non-existent places in the city of Pilsen or the famous 35th Pilsen Infantry Regiment. The curator Petra Kocova will deal with these and other topics during her lecture at 17:00.
