SCATTERBRAINS

The Liberec Naive Theatre
SCATTERBRAINS

An expedition into the fleeting world of the flighty, fickle and volatile. A playful exploration of the skies in a small village.

Watch out, the wind is rising! If you're tiny, grab a blade of grass, tie a knot, fill your pockets with stones. "It would be quite a nice place if only it wasn’t so drafty here," the giant mutters under his breath. The dandelion immediately feels more lightheaded in the draft and the gardener looks deflated. The weathervane’s manager controls the currents, winds the propellers and counts the revs. We can't light up our house without him. But enough is enough, and the roof disappears into the clouds. Now, feel the wind, lick your finger, set the sails, spread the wings and... But what if there's no wind? Catch the kite, it's falling from the sky. Inhale, exhale. Whoever dares to suck up the wind will not fit into the den, and whoever is too full of oneself will eventually deflate.

About the artist:

The Liberec Naive Theatre was founded in 1949 as one of the first Czech professional puppet theatres. It is one of the top contemporary puppet theatres and performs mainly for children and youth. Every two years, it organises the international festival, Mateřinka (Nursery), focused on puppet productions for pre-school children. The Naive Theatre places emphasis on original authorial work in its programme, and above all it persistently strives to produce puppet shows, regardless of whether the term ‘puppet’ refers to figurative, object or any other type of visual-arts theatre.
