What may happen when Punch decides to settle down and the Devil and Death don't like the idea very much. Will swords clash?
Accompanied by songs, with a rich stage design, each tale with a different type of puppets.
The first fairy tale, by Jiří Jaroš, is performed with wooden hand puppets behind a classic fairground screen. Punch is going to settle down and build a little house on a small wood clearing. The devil tries to thwart his plans, but even with the help of his colleague, the Death, he fails.
Then the scene magically changes and we see the marionettes in Martin Matejka's second fairy tale, a continuation of the first one. Punch awaits the birth of his first offspring and Kalupinka’s subsequent return from the maternity ward. But our old friends the Devil and the Death want their revenge. And lo and behold, Punch is already hanging out the washing... and finally... even the Singer of the Year may sing a song.
About the theatre:
We are fellow students and graduates from the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and long-time colleagues – first, from Dejvické divadlo, next, the Theatre in Dlouhá Street, and as freelancers now.
After years of mostly dramatic theatre, we missed puppets, so in 2002, when our home stage was under water, we founded LokVar. The founding members are Ivana LOKajová and Peter VARga, and gradually, we have been joined by other classmates: Martin Veliký, Markéta Pellarová and Pavel Tesař. The permanent team is made up of directors Arnošt Goldflam, our university guru, Michaela Homolová, our classmate, composer Milan Potoček and, primarily, our in-house artist, author of all stage designs and puppets and classmate Bára Hubená. Our focus is puppet theatre for children, from the youngest ones to the grown-up ones. We emphasize playfulness, imagination, puppetry and most importantly, entertainment not only for children, but also their adults.
