Nonverbal
The production of one of the greatest contemporary Japanese female puppeteers, Miyako Kurotani, is based on the relationship between the puppeteer and the puppet. In a dark and empty space, a silent conversation about roles, plays, and characters starts between the actor and the puppet. The boundary between the puppet and the puppeteer gradually disappears, becomes vague and turns into a conflict of their own identities.
About the artist:
Miyako Kurotani's work is influenced by traditional Japanese theatre and, to some extent, also by the Japanese dance butoh. In her work, she often expresses the theme of coexistence and the relationship between a human being and inanimate elements. She has won awards at festivals in Omsk, Kurgan and Subotica with her production Hatenashi. Miyako Kuronati currently works under the Genre Grey platform, which is based in Kunitachi, Tokyo. It focuses on a unique expression of the relationship between man and an animated object.
