FESTIVAL OPENING
Antonín, Matěj, Vojtěch, Jindřich. Four brothers. Bearers of the most famous Czech puppetry surname – Kopecký. And brave legionnaires in the First World War who were at the birth of the independent Czechoslovak Republic.
At Minor Thatre, Jan Jirků has been working with historical themes for quite some time (the productions The Hunt for the Unicorn, Lipany, Zá-to-pek!), which he always conveys to the family audience by captivating portrayals of the heroes' life stories. This time he will focus on the fates of the Kopecký brothers, who did not give up puppet theatre even during the First World War, bringing joy to people in conditions that we can hardly imagine today.
Jakub Kopecký won the Theatre Critics Award for his set design for the production of Brothers of Hope.
About the theatre:
The Minor Theatre, the former Central Puppet Theatre, focuses on family audiences, kindergartens, and primary schools. Minor's repertoire consists of a diverse range of titles, including dramatizations of classic works of children's literature, adaptations of fairy tales, and, above all, original author work. Both stages of Minor experiment with different hall layouts and the ensuing contact with the audience.
Most of the creators (Jiří Austerlitz, Petr Erbes, Jiří Havelka, Braňo Holiček, Boris Jedinák, Jiří Jelínek, Jan Jirků, Anna Klimešová, Lenka Vágnerová, Jakub Vašíček or Radim Vizváry, etc.) working in Minor work here continuously, which gives them an opportunity to try different genres and assignments.
Minor does not have its own ensemble – actors and other creators are hired for each production according to the needs of the director and the genre.
